Career Centre - Registration and Licensing
Registration
To practise in Victoria, Nuclear Medicine Technologists / Scientists including those completing their Intern Year or Professional Development Year (PDY) must be registered with the Medical Radiation Practitioner's Board of Victoria (MRPB). This includes practitioners who may be relocating to Victoria from another state or from overseas.
The MRPB was established in 2007, under the Health Professions Act 2005.The main purpose of the Act is to protect the public by providing for the registration of health practitioners, and for a common system of investigations into the professional conduct, professional performance and ability to practise of registered health professionals.
The MRPB can be contacted as follows:

Licensing
The Radiation Act 2005, which came into operation on 1 September 2007, requires all users of radiation sources to have a "use licence". This process ensures that all radiation users are subject to common radiation controls. However, an exemption was granted to medical radiation practitioners until 1 September 2009. From September 1 2009 the exemption from the requirement to hold a use licence was terminated and medical radiation practitioners who use radiation sources now require a use licence. However, student, intern and PDY practitioners remain exempt.
